Working closely with the Architect/Designer and Cabinet Maker, Osbee incorporated the ingenious use of custom millwork to deliver all the functionality and aesthetics the client was looking for.
Alongside the customary appliances, the bespoke Kitchen cabinetry was also designed to accommodate a flushmount TV enclosure and special housing for a small touchscreen. The ceiling fixtures, chandelier, and speakers in the Kitchen can be adjusted using the multi-function programmable keypad at the entry to the room or from any touchscreen, iPad and iPhone running the Osbee Home app custom-programmed for the residence.
Single keypads throughout the residence replace banks of traditional switches and are programmed to give simple one-touch control of shades, drapes, and lighting presets to suit the family’s lifestyle.
In the Primary Bedroom, motorized drapery tracks make it easy to close the drapes and transform the room into an intimate, private space.
To provide comfortable viewing in the sharply angled room, a 42-inch TV rises on a custom lift and automatically swivels toward the bed. When it’s turned off, the TV disappears into the shallow cabinet, custom-engineered to contain the screen and lift mechanism, and to ensure adequate ventilation.
As with many NYC apartments, rooms often serve more than one function. Through the use of innovative technology solutions, Osbee did just that. With the touch of a button, the mirror-paneled wall in the Library slides to reveal a 65-inch TV and a 7.2 surround-sound speaker system, transforming the room into a fully appointed Media Room.
With valuable artwork throughout the residence, control over the environment is critical for proper exhibition and protection. The motorized solar shades, motorized drapery tracks, spanning two stories are programmed to automatically raise and lower based on the time of day and day of the year, or can be individually controlled by keypads, touchscreens, iPads, and iPhones running the Osbee Home app.
Lighting, and thermostats are also integrated and programmed to monitor the time of year and day, temperature, and humidity to create the optimal environment for the art collection — and the family.
As another example of Osbee’s inventive use of technology, a 26-inch TV in the Home Office is mounted on a lift hidden in the cabinet — and files itself away automatically when not in use.
In his Primary Bath, a 42-inch TV is mounted in a specially-engineered recess in the custom-fabricated marble wall. Immersive audio is delivered via the in-wall and waterproof shower speakers. The motorized shades sit behind a panel of glass to keep them dry.
Located out of view behind wall panels in the Library, central equipment racks and modules hold all the system hardware for the housewide audio and video, Internet, telephone, security system, lighting, shades, and surveillance cameras, keeping the rooms free from electronic clutter.
